Well Chlorinated System

Well Pellet Dropper (Chlorine Pellet Feeder)

A well pellet dropper, also known as a chlorine pellet feeder, is a cost-effective device used in residential well water systems to deliver solid disinfectant pellets directly into the well. It is commonly used for shock chlorination, iron bacteria treatment, and ongoing low-level disinfection.

What It Is

A pellet dropper is typically a vertical PVC tube installed inside the well casing. Chlorine or calcium hypochlorite pellets are added to the tube, where they slowly dissolve as water flows past, introducing disinfectant directly at the source.

How It Works

  1. Pellets are placed inside the dropper tube.

  2. As the well pump runs, water flows through the tube and dissolves the pellets.

  3. Chlorine mixes with the well water to kill bacteria and oxidize contaminants.

  4. Oxidized iron, manganese, and sulfur are then removed through filtration or system flushing.

Common Uses

  • Shock chlorination of wells

  • Treatment for iron bacteria and slime buildup

  • Control of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor)

  • Oxidation of iron and manganese for improved filtration
